Venezuela’s woes

  • By Alan Knott-Craig
  • February 11, 2013

The great thing about traveling is that I’m reminded that South Africa is not alone in confronting challenges, both political and economic.

Take Venezuela for example. Its president, Hugo Chavez, was reelected a couple months ago, whereafter he immediately disappeared into a hospital in Cuba. No one has seen or heard from him in two months.

Better yet, the new Cabinet has not been selected, so the government is literally leaderless.

In spite of no clear authority, the government announced a 45% devaluation of the Bolivar as of Monday.

Awesome.
