There are 3 kinds of secrets

  • By Alan Knott-Craig

1.         A secret that affects no one. Like picking your nose.

2.         A secret that affects other people but does not hurt them unless the secret is revealed. Like the name of a rape victim.

3.         A secret that affects other people and hurts them whether they find our or not. Like plotting to blow up a building.

There is nothing wrong with this first two. So I guess there are some secrets that can and should stay secret.

Its the last one, harmful secrets, that is the problem. When you think about keeping something secret, ask yourself, “Will this hurt someone?” If the answer is “yes,” you can rest assured it won’t remain a secret.

The mobile web means the end of harmful secrets.
