Don’t start work until your client has paid a deposit.

A contract is meaningless.

An invoice is meaningless.

A statement is meaningless.

Only cash in your bank account shows genuine intent.

Otherwise don’t be surprised if you get halfway into the job only to find your deadbeat client is nowhere to be found, along with your cash.
