Dwight D. Eisenhower had a deal with his brother. They would take turns paying for each other’s university.

Dwight would work the first year whilst his brother studied.

The following year Dwight would study whilst his brother worked.

After the first year Dwight’s brother asked if he could study another year.

This was a big decision. Dwight had already worked a year, now it was his turn to study.

But Dwight said “no problem”, and agreed to work another year to fund his brother’s studies.

During that year Dwight was made aware of the Naval Academy, where free tuition was offered.

He applied, was accepted at West Point, and went on to become the Supreme Allied Commander in WWII, and president of the USA from 1952 to 1960.

If he had rebuffed his brother’s request and taken his turn to study, Dwight could not have gone on to such greatness as he did.

The same mysterious paths exist in the journey of an entrepreneur.

If the fire of the vortex it’s easy to get selfish, to resort to the motto of “every man for himself.”

Resist that urge. Do the unselfish thing.

That’s the way to find your greatness.
