13 rules for being happy

  1. Don’t be upset when wronged. Let bad deeds flow over you like water.
  2. If someone has a problem with you, that’s his problem.
  3. Keep an eye on the big picture. Think of how small your problems are in the bigger scheme of things.
  4. Share your problems. You’ll find others return the favour and you’ll quickly realise you’re not alone and your problems ain’t so bad.
  5. Avoid unhappy people. Only spend time with people that exude positive energy.
  6. Are you an introvert? If so, make time to be by yourself and recharge your batteries. Are you an extrovert? If so, make time to socialize and recharge your batteries.
  7. Marry the right person. There is no substitute for coming home to someone who loves you regardless of the bad things going down at work.
  8. Have kids. You’ll only truly appreciate things like sleep, quiet and hotel rooms when you have an alternative reality to compare them too. The more kids you have, the more joy you’ll find in sleep, quiet and hotel rooms.
  9. Don’t read the papers. Ignorance truly is bliss. The only information you need is on matters over which you can exert some control. The rest, forget about it.
  10. Exercise for 20min every day. Walking is exercise.
  11. Stay clear of sugar. It gives you a temporary energy spike, but brings an inevitable downer. Sugar also lowers your immune system, which makes you more vulnerable to getting sick.
  12. Stay close to your family and friends. The stronger your community ties and relationships, the happier you’ll be.
  13. Choose where you want to live before you choose what you want to do. Geography brings more happiness than career.
