This saying is from Wagner’s opera depicting the end of the world (of the Norse gods), where the final scene shows a buxom woman singing, followed by the end of the world (and the show).

It has subsequently been applied to many circumstances in life, particularly in sport.

It applies equally in business.

There will be many times when you think the race is run. The result is decided.

You’re out of juice. May as well throw in the towel.

Don’t do it.

You never know what will happen.

Maybe a debtor will pay you.

Maybe a new customer will sign up.

Maybe your competition trips up just short of the finish line and you trundle past to take the medal.

Don’t give up. Give it 100% all the way to the finish.

It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.
