Don’t take anything personally

(This is an extract from The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz)

Taking things personally is the maximum expression of selfishness because we make the  assumption that everything is about “me”. All people live in their own dream, in their own mind and their own world.

A world created by the agreements they have made with themselves.

Whatever they feel and think is their problem, not your problem, even if what she’s saying is hurting you, it’s her wound and her hurt, she is hurting themselves.

If you feel good, everything around you is good.

You can only love everything that is around you because you love yourself.

You have a choice whether you believe the voices you hear in your mind. The mind can talk and listen at the same time. It’s like a busy market place where a thousand people are all talking at the same time.

Each voice has a different feeling and thought and they confuse us.

Only by making an inventory of your agreement with yourself, will you uncover all the conflicts in the mind and create order in the market place.

You only need to trust yourself to make responsible choices. You are never responsible for others, only for yourself.
